How much training does the person who is practicing acupuncture on you have?

Does your acupuncturist take your pulses and give you a clear explanation of what is going on with your qi?  Can he/she explain Chinese medicine and the benefit of treatment to you in English?

Who is your acupuncturist?
+ a Practitioner of Chinese medicine who successfully completed 4 years of training in Traditional Chinese medicine, is nationally certified, and licensed in the state of CO?
+ an MD or DO who completed 300 hours of training (sometimes more, sometimes less)?
+ a Chiropractor who completed a 100 hour program (some certainly have more training than that!)
+ a physical therapist who is doing dry needling which requires a weekend of training. Yes, a whole weekend (or 2) of training. Fully trained acupuncturists/Practitioners of Chinese medicine went to school for 4 years to learn what is now called dry needling and what we call ashi needling (aka acupuncture).  Why is dry needling acupuncture? Because the points that are used are frequently acupuncture points or are on acupuncture meridians and stimulation of them can affect your qi/energy in a way that requires a more training than a weekend to understand or resolve when energetic patterns are accessed.

This is not to say that any or all of these treatments by those other than Practitioners of Chinese medicine/Acupuncturists can't be successful.  But, if you have internal medicine issues =
serious chronic illness
are trying to get pregnant
are going through treatment for cancer
have acid reflux and other digestive issues
have conditions that modern medicine doesn't treat very effectively (migraines, hot flashes, PMS, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus etc.)
then take the time to look into the training of the person who is needling you.

Recent testimonial/referral from one of my patients:
Martha, here is a referral that I sent to a friend who asked me to recommend an acupuncturist; I absolutely recommend you!
"Martha is a highly trained acupuncturist. She has the wonderful ability to understand the underlying subtle aspects of one's system. I highly recommend Martha, she is a phenomenal woman."

Bio: Dr. Martha Lucas, L.Ac. is an internationally recognized expert in Chinese medicine for pulse diagnosis (internal medicine and emotional health issues) and Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture.  She can be reached at DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com or 303-947-6224. "I specialize in 3 things because I believe that it is important to have focus in order to do your best work and get people back on track quickly.  I want to help you have babies, get you out playing basketball or football or in that triathlon sooner and stronger, and keep your skin looking its best!!!"

1. Having difficulty conceiving or managing your reproductive health even after you are pregnant?  Acupuncture works for that.  I see both men and women about reproductive health and offer a FREE consult to explain my work.  I can also address the declines that happen with aging (like resurrecting the flagging libido).

2. Getting a few wrinkles?  Acupuncture works for that!  Click here to schedule your FREE consultation with the internationally known age control expert Dr. Martha Lucas, L.Ac.DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com.  Your cosmetic and anti-aging needs can be met with Chinese medicine - the true anti-aging medicine.  The Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture has been featured in O Magazine and is taught to practitioners all over the world who want to offer the patients a safe, effective alternative to injections and plastic surgery.  Use the most natural thing there is for age control: your own body's energy!!

3. ATHLETES: if your extreme workout is getting harder or you are injured, acupuncture works for that! I'll get you back in the game asap.

WHY AM I ABLE TO GET YOUR HEALTH BACK ON TRACK OR EVEN BETTER THAN BEFORE?  Because I can give you an expert diagnosis to determine the cause of your symptoms or disease and then TREAT IT!
Chinese medicine treatment works best when your practitioner KNOWS HOW TO MAKE A DIAGNOSIS.  Too many acupuncturists treat symptoms not cause because they don't know how to take pulses or use other Chinese medicine diagnostic tools properly. Take it from someone who teaches Chinese medicine students from all over the world - the proper diagnosis leads to more effective treatment.

On the other hand - got good health?  Acupuncture/Chinese medicine works to maintain that.  But if you don't feel the best that you can or as good as you think you should, call me at 303-947-6224 or email me DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com.  Even though I feel great, I receive acupuncture every other week whether I need it or not ….

INSURANCE BILLING: your acupuncture or other Chinese Medicine treatments may be covered.  As a service to you, we find out whether or not your health insurance covers acupuncture and our other therapies and when it does we bill your insurance.  There are plans that cover it, some pay for unlimited visits or enough visits for you to come every other week and be the healthiest employee in your company! Why not be healthier?  That's what the insurance company realizes - preventing surgeries, the use of expensive pain killers, and your having to have medical procedures saves them (and you!) money.  And even preventing the common cold saves your employer money.
