Giving Cat Care Society a gift!

As a New Year's present I am giving the Cat Care Society in Lakewood a check for $395.  CCS is the benefactor of my annual December fundraising campaign. For a number of years my benefactor was the NICU at Rose Hospital where my premie grandson Jonathan received such excellent care at the beginning of his life. Now I have moved to another group who needs our help, cats who are looking for new permanent homes.  The CCS veterinarian clinic is where we just took our cat Annie for her checkup and dental work and it is a place to behold!  Wonderful calm cats greet you and your beloved cat when you arrive.  We felt that the medical care was outstanding and the staff absolutely loves cats.

Thank you to all of my patients who received treatments in December because you helped the amount grow while you helped your health. And a special thank you to those of you who added a little more to the pot!

Making a commitment (resolution) to take better care of your health?  Give me a call - I treat all manner of medical issues including but not limited to PMS and fertility challenges, emotional issues (depression, anxiety, grief), digestive issues, cosmetic improving (Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture), and building your immune system to avoid or shorten the flu season for you!

Insurance billing: As a service to you, we find out whether or not your health insurance covers acupuncture and when it does we bill your insurance.  There are plans that cover it, some pay for unlimited visits.  Why not be healthier?  That's what the insurance company realizes - preventing surgeries, the use of expensive pain killers, and your having to have medical procedures saves them (and you!) money.  Even preventing the common cold saves your employer money.

Neroli Peptide Eye Cream: natural care for the delicate skin around your eyes

Neroli Peptide Eye Cream: natural care for the delicate skin around your eyes

The most common issues we all want an eye cream to address are dark circles, loss of elasticity, and puffiness.  Neroli Peptide Eye Cream helps address discoloration and circulation with edelweiss and magnolia bark extract. Along with a blend of rice bran and soy proteins, it helps address dark circles and puffiness.  Fu ling extract assists in the restoration of luminosity, firmness, and hydration of the skin, and a tri peptide formula plus retinol helps restore elasticity.  Neroli’s beneficial effect on sensitive, dry, and mature skin has been well known among herbalists for ages. Key ingredients include Neroli hydrosol, grape seed oil, meadowfoam seed oil, sunflower oil, borage seed oil, evening primrose oil, eidelweiss extract, magnolia bark extract, frankincense, retinol, and fermented radish root.

GIVE THE GIFT OF BEAUTIFUL SKIN: MEI ZEN COSMETICS

GIVE THE GIFT OF BEAUTIFUL SKIN: MEI ZEN COSMETICS
We at Mei Zen Cosmetics are proud to offer natural, effective products.  We offer you a number of ways to improve your skin or just keep your healthy skin looking as beautiful as ever!
Today I'm featuring our Golden Radiance Pearl Cream --- pearl on your skin makes it look luminescent and bright.

Pearl has been used to beautify the skin for thousands of years.  Our pearl cream blends pearl powder with the herbalism of Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern, natural skin care ingredients to bring you a high-performing product formulated to enhance skin’s tone, clarity, and radiance. Golden Radiance Pearl Cream is designed to be especially useful to clients suffering from sun damage, hyper-pigmentation, and cuperouse skin conditions.  Its deep golden color comes from the Sea Buckthorn oil.  This oil is a precious commodity that is incomparable for its antioxidant qualities and its’ ability to rejuvenate the skin, reduce inflammation, and reduce the signs of premature aging.

We have chosen ingredients to assist in evening out skin tone, exfoliating and brightening the skin, supporting the skin’s moisture balance and elasticity, increasing the skin’s resistance from further continuing damage, and enhancing the overall radiance of the skin.  The lemon oil we use is distilled rather than cold-pressed so the problems of photo toxicity are eliminated, and its’ ability to aid in repairing discoloration and redness is able to shine.  Not only do we have pearl powder in our cream but we also nod to Oriental traditions in health and beauty by our inclusion of rice bran oil that is high in fatty acids and a natural anti-oxidant and Centella Asiatica (luei gong gen.)  Centella Asiatica is a powerful antioxidant and agent in skin regeneration, collagen production, and overall skin healing.
Chinese Medicine not only gets you healthy and helps you maintain your good health, it keeps your skin healthy.

Acupuncture and FSD (female sexual dysfunction)

Acupuncture and Female Sexual Dysfunction
Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) includes disturbances in the sexual response cycle resulting in marked distress and interpersonal difficulty capable of altering quality of life adversely. FSD is a common phenomenon affecting up to 26%–71% of the general female population! The umbrella term FSD subsumes four disorders:
(1) hypoactive sexual desire disorder - effective treatments for HSDD are lacking;
(2) female sexual arousal disorder - pharmaceuticals have not been shown to be effective for women;
(3) orgasmic disorder; and
(4) sexual pain disorder.
Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) is the most common and clinically significant sexual com- plaint in women.

I read a pilot study that assessed immediate and longer-term effects of acupuncture quantitatively on symptoms related to female sexual dysfunction, using global- and specific-symptom instruments.
Results of acupuncture for treating FSD:
Sexual desire improved as identified by two instruments,
Psychological symptoms were also reduced, and
Acupuncture reduced anxiety, reduced sexual dysfunction, and improved urogenital symptoms.

This study suggests benefit from acupuncture treatment for several aspects of Female Sexual Dysfunction.  Women should be aware that, for those who do not want or who cannot tolerate hormone therapy, lifestyle changes, or counseling for FSD, acupuncture may be an acceptable alternative treatment. Furthermore, declines in mental health associated with FSD may also be responsive to acupuncture.

My annual fundraiser benefactor: The Cat Care Society

This year during my annual holiday fundraising drive, I will donate $5 from each acupuncture treatment that I give to the Cat Care Society.  You need to check this great place out: http://www.catcaresociety.org and Like them on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/CatCareSociety?fref=ts.  My husband and I love their work and take our cats to their clinic when they need health care.  Our cat Annie just received most excellent dental care there.  When you walk in you are greeted by the most lovely, outgoing and friendly cats you can imagine - especially my husband and I since both of our kitties are extremely shy.

So call me and schedule your I-need-a-holiday-season-balancing acupuncture treatment and/or herbs.  Reduce your stress; I have herbs for that too.  Enhance your immune system so you don't catch the flu; I have herbs for that too.  Resolve your allergies, PMS, pain, sleep issues and more!  Plus, two more recent conceptions demonstrate once more that acupuncture/Chinese Medicine can successfully treat fertility challenges!

Acupuncture and Parkison's disease

This is an interesting article that mentions the "temporary" effects of acupuncture on some of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.  What's fascinating though is that they can tell that acupuncture affects the brain but don't go the next step toward how it can change your brain, your immune system, your reproductive system, etc. That's partly because it's just a blurb probably not written by a practitioner of Chinese Medicine so is not complete.  But it's a start and good information for people to know. Acupuncture affects the brain!

Scalp acupuncture shown effective for treating vascular dementia

A study published in the Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science concluded that  acupuncture is beneficial for the treatment of vascular demential. Vascular dementia is caused by brain damage due to impaired blood flow to the brain.  Dementia is most commonly seen after a stroke or a series of mini-strokes.  But, any condition that reduces blood flow, and thereby oxygen, to the brain may cause vascular dementia.  The acupuncture substantially improved cognition and the overall condition of the patients suffering from vascular dementia including their performance of daily activities, mental state, and social behavior.

Acupuncture and herbs found to work for those who want to lose weight.

A study by Sui et. al. in Obesity Reviews concludes that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are “more effective than placebo or lifestyle modification in reducing body weight.” The researchers note that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have fewer side effects than the pharmaceutical obesity medications including fenfluramine yet the acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine demonstrate similar efficacy. The authors note that, “The use of western anti-obesity drugs has been limited by side effects including mood changes, suicidal thoughts, and gastrointestinal or cardiovascular complications. The effectiveness and safety of traditional Chinese medicine including Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) and acupuncture provide an alternative established therapy for this medical challenge."

Ovarian cyst pain gone. Acupuncture works!

One of yesterday's patients said: "My ovarian cyst pain had become intolerable. I was willing to let my doctor do anything she had to do to that ovary to make the pain go away.  Now, since I've been seeing you it's gone.  Thank you; you are amazing!"
It's Chinese Medicine that is amazing.  Ovarian cyst pain, low to no libido, PMS, fertility issues? By the way, PMS is not "normal" - a "normal" period is one without any cramping, bloating, moodiness and yes, you can have that kind of period.

Depression: It doesn't have to be so sad

If you have a tendency to be depressed/sad or are taking anti-depressant medication, Chinese Medicine will help you. Emotional issues are one of my favorite things to treat in my practice because I know how the various Chinese Medicine therapies can help people come up out of the dark spiral of depression and anxiety ... even unfounded fears.  We can inherit those tendencies and don't even feel like they are "right" for our lives.  Give me a call!  303-947-6224 or email DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com.  I can help your Spirit rise.

If you have Federal BCBS group/enrollment 105 your acupuncture coverage is awesome!

That's right.  Enrollment code or group 105 of the Blue Cross Blue Shield federal employee plan covers 24 acupuncture treatments a year.  You could be the healthiest employee in your office!  Very smart of the Fed to cover Chinese Medicine/acupuncture as it is one of the best preventive medicines out there so saves them money because employees aren't missing work.  And, let's face it, Chinese Medicine is one of the places that people come who have tried everything else in modern medicine (expensive!!) and more or less given up on having good health.  My work is so gratifying because I so often see people get well, have a much better quality of life, or bring new humans into the world through my work with couples who are experiencing fertility issues.

Research demonstrates that Acupuncture works!

As a Research Psychologist I appreciate that we are doing research to "prove" that acupuncture works. The latest report is that it works for pain.  Really!?  We have known that for thousands of years.  People forget that the case study (individual patient) is a bona fide research tool that demonstrates results and we have tens of thousands of those.  We have proven for years that acupuncture not only works for pain (migraines, sports injuries, PMS, gastrointestinal pain), works for fertility (PMS, seeming inability to conceive).  I hope to present a case study at the Society for Acupuncture Research about a 29 yr old woman who was told she had little to no chance of getting pregnant.  Just received a picture of her baby on ultrasound.  It works for keeping yourself healthy, warding off the flu and other colds, anti-aging - it is the TRUE anti-aging medicine because it keeps your body working well.

Another weight loss success story for acupuncture!

Working on another weight loss success!  Patient started treatment seeing for weight loss about 8 weeks ago and has lost 13 lbs!  I was a bit worried too in the beginning because she wasn't really controlling her diet very well and doesn't get much exercise.  It is my policy that acupuncture and Chinese herbs are an adjunct to your exercise and food plan but I also believe that acupuncture will make the digestion work better and improve the overall metabolism.  So, she has been very faithful with her treatments and little by little she has been eating less because her appetite is well controlled.  She is also very faithful with her acupuncture appointments.

Acupuncture successful in treating digestive issues

The research conclusion: “Acupuncture is effective in the treatment of functional dyspepsia, and is superior to non-acupoint puncture"  -- which is one reason why it is important to see an Acupuncturist who is a Practitioner of Chinese Medicine rather than a professional w/ only 40 to 300 hours of training (vs 4 years of full time Chinese Medicine school).  Ask me more about this at DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com
You may notice that, in this study, the patients were treated 5 times in a week for 4 weeks -... this is why I have said for years that once a week acupuncture is not the most effective way to be treated.  Frequent treatment >>>> cure >>>>>see you in a month or so for future prevention.  You don't take your Nexium once a week do you?  Or your anti-depressant?  Why then rely on once a week treatment for relief or resolution of your symptoms/condition?
Dyspepsia is indigestion and involves symptoms including abdominal pain, bloating, an uncomfortable sensation of heaviness or fullness after eating, nausea, belching and heartburn. Dyspepsia is often linked to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), gastritis and gastrointestinal ulcers. In many cases, dyspepsia is not linked to an underlying organic disease which makes it another perfect condition to be treated with Chinese Medicine. In allopathic/Western/modern medicine, dyspepsia is often treated with prescription drugs (proton pump inhibitors). However, **long term use of PPIs is linked to gastric cell atrophy, which may lead to cancer**.
Researchers examined a total sample size of 712 patients. Patients received 5 acupuncture treatments per week for a period of 4 weeks. Follow-up was documented 12 weeks following the treatment period. All groups improved, however, Group 1 ("real" acupuncture points) had over a 70 percent success rate. Group 1 received specific acupuncture points on the stomach meridian. The group with the lowest success rate was the sham acupuncture group with only a 34.75 percent improvement.
At The Colorado Center of Traditional Medicine we bill health insurance when acupuncture or manual therapy is covered.  Follow this blog at http://www.feedblitz.com/f/?Sub=777691

Acupuncture affects brain's attention, cognition, and calming functions directly

A recent study concludes that acupuncture affects the attention function of the brain. The study measured the effects of acupuncture points Ht7 (Shenmen) and Lu9 (Taiyuan). Researchers discovered that Ht7 had a “greater influence on the attention function of the brain.” The goal of the study was to investigate the effects of needling Ht7 and Lu9 on human attention brain function and also to explore methods to research brain function as it relates to acupuncture stimulation.
The researches used EEG (electroencephalography) to measure ERP (event-related potentials). EEG measures electrical activity of the brain and ERP is a measure of brain responses related to thought and perception. ERP is an electrophysiological measurement of stimuli to the brain. Researchers looked for changes in P300, a brainwave reflecting cognitive function in decision making processes, after application of manual acupuncture at Ht7 and Lu9. A subset of P300 is P3a. This brainwave measures attention and orientation to changes in the environment. Researchers noted that acupuncture at these points affected P3a and another P300 brainwave known at P3b. P3b measures information processing and recognition of improbable events (things that defy ordinary expectations). The more unlikely an event, the greater the P3b brainwave.
EEG brainwaves now measure what has been known to Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Ht7 (Shenmen, Spirits Gate) is an acupuncture point at the wrist crease known to be calming and restful to the heart and ‘spirit’. It is traditionally used for mental restlessness, mania, palpitations, disorientation, depression, and poor memory. Lu9 is known more for its affect on lung disorders so it is not surprising, from a Chinese medicine perspective, that EEG measurements more strongly connect Ht7 to changes in brainwave states associated with attention and cognition. Acupuncture increases bone mineral density

According to a new study, acupuncture increases bone mineral density.  Remember too, dietary calcium is most important but if you must take a calcium supplement, take your 1200 mg/day in smaller doses (5oo to 6oo mg). Your body can't metabolize all 1200 at once!  Add Vitamin D, weight bearing exercise, and acupuncture and your risk of breaking a bone will go down.  I've been post-menopausal for about 7 years and according to my latest bone density test my bone density hasn't changed a bit!

Grandmothering and the bittersweetness of life

Yesterday my oldest grandchild graduated from preschool.  I was crying a little as soon as they started to play the Grand March (so cute for those who are so little).  That was good though so that my camera eyes were ready when Jonathan began his march.  I cry a lot around the grandchildren issues but I think that my crying personifies the definition of bittersweet = arousing pleasure tinged with sadness or pain.  So tears are cried out of happiness and pride about the little one's advances but there is also that sense that time is moving on, the grands are moving on, things are going to change.  Ahhh, there's the rub: change.  They change who and what they know, make new friends and join activities that take their time.  They move to new schools so there's the possibility of seeing them less frequently.  Their "free time" for spending times w/ the g-parents seems like a smaller window of opportunity.  So I cry.  We finish a vacation where we've taken one of them (soon to be more), and I cry.  They are here playing in the yard pretending to mow the lawn, rake, and shovel, and I'm maudlin when they leave.  That's right: self-pity takes over. Why does change, growth sometimes engender that self-pitying feeling?  I can grow too; my life will change with theirs.  But, my life is changing toward the end, and while so is theirs, they have so much more left!  Every graduation that they each make is a "graduation" for me toward being older and my life changing.
Thank God I am healthy and active and plan to continue to be so.  For example, our oldest grandson is interested in rock climbing so I bought myself new climbing shoes yesterday.  Haven't climbed in at least 15 years but I feel a revitalization, a renewal.  That is how I prefer to look at the passing of time with my grands - they are allowing me to learn new things, practice new skills (like how to use all the new fangled technology out there), and relive experiences that I treasure and now show them (skiing, camping, mt biking, general exploration of the world!)  So I get a redo in many ways.
I guess that growth is tough and certainly change creates angst in many unless you are firmly entrenched in that idea that change is good; nothing good happens in a vacuum.  I remind myself that 2012 especially is about change: the year of the Yang Water Dragon.  Part of the power of this year is having the ability to flow with change - one can miss opportunities if you are unwilling to change.  Will, determination, ability to flow will all lead to abundance.  All these grandkids = abundance!!!

Cosmetic Acupuncture: Love your skin! Host a party and receive a $200 discount.

I started the day with Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture and love how my skin feels.  It's like I can feel the qi nurturing my skin and the collagen and elastin regrowing - most of the day actually (I know because I do these treatments pretty regularly).  The Chinese Medicine theory around Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture is that your practitioner (me) takes your pulses to do a complete examination of how your qi (energy) is flowing, gives you a general health treatment, and then puts in the cosmetic needles.  So in every Mei Zen treatment, your entire energy gets balanced along w/ your cosmetic treatment.  This is a wonderful option to surgery (well, almost anything is a good option to not have surgery), injections, laser treatments, etc.
If you host a Cosmetic Acupuncture party, you will receive a $200 discount on your own Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture protocol.  Email DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com or call 303-947-6224 for details or to set up your FREE Cosmetic Acupuncture consultation.

Acupuncture is physical medicine, not a mystery.

Acupuncture affects the body in real, tangible ways!  It is not a mystery and new studies are demonstrating that.

Bee products and health

Bees create health products - royal jelly has long been revered in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its healing and improving longevity properties and now they're looking at beehive extract in the treatment of prostate cancer.

Acupuncture helps chronic obstructive pulmonary disease plus weight.

The authors state: "We demonstrated clinically relevant improvements in DOE [dyspnea on exertion] (Borg scale), nutrition status (including BMI),  and health-related quality of life after three months of acupuncture treatment."
Not only did the patients' lung health improve but their weight improved!!!

Looking for one day week acupuncture space Broomfield/Westminster

I'm thinking of adding a satellite office to my practice up North.  Have been hearing of people renting 2 rooms one day a week (furnished) for about $100/month and so am looking for something like that.  DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com or 303-947-6224.

Women's bone health, lack of effectiveness of phosphonates (ie., Fosamax), and how Chinese Medicine works!

The FDA has published an analysis  of the popular bone-building drugs suggesting caution about long term use because the drugs lead to weaker bones in some cases.  This is not the first time I've heard this.  I've had patients over the years who wonder why, after taking their calcium and prescription drug for 5 years their bones are still weak.  So I wasn't surprised by the FDA's concern.  Plus, many women don't know how to take calcium so that it gets used most efficiently by the body ..... or used at all!

Look to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for bone health.  In fact, I recently gave one of my patients who suffers from back pain some of my personal "back pain, inflammation, bone building" formula and she told me that she didn't need her estrogen patch for her hot flashes any more.  True!!  The herbs in the formula work on the cause of back pain - our weakened central, bone building qi.  That's how TCM works - we treat the cause not the symptom.

And in fact, I was taking the same bone building herbs prior to my last visit to a back surgeon who didn't say "bone on bone" for my lumbars after I'd been told that by everyone who had looked at xrays or MRIs.  So I'm happy - structural yoga therapy (w/ R Ziegler who rocks!) but I also DO the work, MT and rolfing with A Rach (great!), and regular acupuncture have worked.  Yes, REGULAR acupuncture, not just when I'm in pain or crooked and stiff.

Call 303-947-6224 or email me at DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com if you need help moving through peri-menopause, help with fertility challenges, have any medical issues with digestion, sleep, depression, anxiety etc. or would like to talk about Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture.

Worried about your weight - women especially your middle abdominal weight - call me!

Obesity continues to rise in our country and, especially for women of peri and post menopausal age, it's scary.  Too much weight increases our chances of a number of health conditions including having that first heart attack.  In my practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I specialize in improving digestion (your first step toward losing weight believe it or not), in using acupuncture and herbs for weight loss which may include herbs that make the digestive system work better but also those (in liniment form) that help detox fat cells.  As I am a woman in that "middle age spread" age group, I know the importance of removing the especially "bad" visceral fat that accumulates in some people's middles - again, the more dangerous fat for leading to conditions like heart disease and stroke.
INSURANCE: Your insurance may cover treatment; let's find out by having you fill out an insurance verification form.  If your treatment here is not covered by insurance, well, then it's time to figure out how important your future health is, how important it is to you to feel young and vibrant.  We can't put a price on good health. Call me at 303-947-6224 or email me at DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com.  I can email you an insurance verification form to see what your health insurance will cover (or not).  Our office works with all insurance carriers and know that there are United, Cigna, BCBS, and other companies who have SOME plans (not all) that do cover acupuncture and some are quite good especially if you work for certain companies.
If you would like to follow this blog, email me and I will send you a link.
Hope you have a health-filled day!

Need to detox from too many prescriptions, too much fat, etc.. Acupuncture works!

And auricular acupuncture is not only for detoxing in the sense of drug withdrawal. Auricular acupuncture, in conjunction w/ Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment, helps treat emotional issues, eating/weight/emotional eating issues, anxiety issues.  http://www.naturalnews.com/035771_auricular_acupuncture_addiction_detox.html

Healthy Hope: Never give up video + personal success story

This is a sweet video about someone who was told that he would never walk again but who DID the work and now walks!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX9FSZJu448

In less of a way but still very dramatic for me, I've been told never to run again (and I still play soccer), that my back crookedness was basically incurable because of bone on bone lumbar spine - think about disc replacement or low back fusion.  I couldn't turn right in the mornings because my back was so stiff and muscles so tight - and, naturally, I was in pain.  I was starting to feel fairly depressed .. asking myself "is this it?".  It's going to be too hard to hold my grandchildren, I'll never be able to pick them up, no more extreme mt biking, soccer, hiking w/ a backpack, etc. etc.?!  I didn't like the prospect of back surgery - though have to admit, I was willing to do it if I could get function back and have less pain - I wanted to live my life!  Didn't like the prospect of taking Vicodin - how would my body look in 20 years of being wracked by pain killers?  (not to mention that they don't address the problem and since I practice Traditional Chinese Medicine I like to go to the cause.  So, I got faithful about receiving acupuncture treatments and taking anti-inflammatory and bone building Chinese herbal prescriptions, I see a fantastic structural integration MT (and have been rolfed), and I started to see a structural yoga therapist and DO the work.  Oh my gosh, you cannot believe the difference in my life!  No pain meds, play soccer, back to mt biking without (much) fear, play w/ the grands all I want.  My morning pain and stiffness (that "they" said is arthritis and just get used to it) is somedays non-existent.  Now, is this utopia?  No. I'm aging, having to  accept certain things about the aging but what a difference I have in my life now and I will never give up; aging back or not!

Acupuncture can improve skeletal muscle atrophy: think this is what helped my low back!!

At least in part.  Docs were telling me bone on bone lumbars but at the last visit they weren't saying that.  A lot of bone on bone but at at least one junction doc said "this one not too bad".  Now, I am also taking bone building and muscle "controlling" Chinese herbs  along with my regular acupuncture.  "Regular" is the key - if you want to be active with an aging body REGULAR care is the key.  Or, just give it up and become sedentary.

More on heart attacks and pessimism: don't block your heart qi and blood!

I'm still reeling from the Harvard review stating that optimists are 50% LESS likely to suffer that first heart attack.  It has really made me think about the negative impact that certain emotions can have on our bodies and I talk w/ my patients about it every day.  Pessimism, worry, sadness - they all stagnate the chest.  You can feel it!  Your chest feels tight, tears or angst or anxiety want to be expressed but aren't.  That feeling is, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the qi and blood stagnation around the heart.  How bad for us!!  That is a feeling that I will try to avoid for the rest of my life because I know how important it is for our hearts to have continuous qi and blood flow.   Think about it: our hearts work continuously.  Our heart never gets a break - never.  That continuous creation of life force requires flow, nourishment, calm ability to function which is negatively impacted by the stagnation that emotions like worry and doubt cause.

ONE OF THE GOALS OF ACUPUNCTURE: to minimize the negative impact of stress, emotions, environmental toxins, etc. on your body.  Call today for an appointment if you need to relax, destress, detox, get well, improve your digestive health, have fertility challenges, pain, or other health or emotional  issues.  303-947-6224. www.AcupunctureWoman.com

INSURANCE BILLING: Not all Denver acupuncturists accept insurance. However, I understand the financial importance of allowing patients to pay through their insurer. We work with all insurance carriers that offer acupuncture benefits.  We process all the paperwork and deal with the insurance companies. As a Practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I want to allow my patients to concentrate on one thing: healing.

Need more defense against the effects of stress?: Heart health and optimism

A Harvard U review of the literature found the most optimistic people had half the risk of a first heart attack when compared to the least optimistic. A 50% reduction in risk!!!

Allergies? Acupuncture and herbs work!

Kind of a nice video about acupuncture and allergies. I use a dynamite herbal formula for allergies and really 100% of my patients who take it report great results. And, the patient shows us that it doesn't hurt!! (or it shouldn't anyway if your practitioner is a good needler and believes in gentle treatment).

The Chinese Medicine rocks! blog: why do I need more than one treatment?

Why do I need a number of acupuncture treatments when I only need to see my MD once?

Ahhhh .... the ever frequent question about why you need more than one acupuncture treatment in order for your chronic symptoms to go away ..... i.e., be miraculously cured. My pet peeve: when people get one acupuncture treatment after suffering through 10 years of back pain and then say it didn't work. Healing takes time. Even a small cut takes time to heal and sometimes healing takes effort (i.e., more than one treatment, change in lifestyle, etc.).

So here's the deal. You see your MD once and come home with Vicodin for your pain, birth control pills to control your PMS, diuretic for your high blood pressure, Protonix for your acid reflux or GERD, Imitrex for your migraines, etc. etc. You need a pill box. If you really think about it, theoretically you are seeing your MD every day - in fact sometimes more than once a day since you need to take your pain meds more than once a day. Further, some of these pharmaceuticals are only masking the cause of your pain or other symptoms while the promise of Chinese Medicine is to find the cause and treat it; treat the root.*

Take my own back pain as a case study. I've had years of back pain probably mostly sports induced (structural damage). I was at the point of seeing surgeons for opinions, being offered all manner of prescriptions, etc. etc. .... the story of many people who have back pain. But I KNOW that the body can change despite what some diagnostic tests show - I see it in my patients every day.

I wanted to change my situation. Bone on bone. You might rightfully ask, how can any treatment besides surgery and pain meds deal with that? Well, acupuncture, structural yoga therapy, and deep tissue massage seem to have me on the very right path! WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS PATH? - I want to be healthy and active not drugged with the condition that is causing the pain continuing to get worse. I am now faithful in receiving regular acupuncture treatments and taking Chinese herbal formulae. I see a dynamite structural yoga therapist and do the postures that she teaches me and receive MT. I am considering canceling my next MD/spine specialist appointment because the AM crookedness, stiffness, and pain are minimal now and I am back to being able to do my AM workouts which I couldn't do 4 months ago. Yay!!

Your body CAN change; it's a matter of whether you are willing to find the proper cache of treatments/practitioners and then DO the work! Do I get discouraged sometimes, wish I didn't ever have to do any work to be pain free or not stiff? I do. But when I look at the alternatives, I'm super happy that I have found therapies that work.

*Naturally there are some conditions that can't be "cured" by dealing with the cause when they are too far gone. But, quality of life, for example pain reduction, chemo induced nausea relief, etc. etc., can be much much better.

Photoacupuncture, Cold Laser, Low Level Laser Therapy = pain relief and more

I started my interest in Chinese Medicine via becoming a Colorpuncturist. Colorpuncture is the use of light rather than needles to treat a variety of conditions. Now I am going back to my roots and offer low level laser therapy or cold laser. Cold laser stimulates the regeneration of tissue (and is therefore used for cosmetic purposes), reduces inflammation (helps reduce pain and stiffness), relieves pain (by reducing inflammation and regenerating cells).

For cold laser treatment along with proper Chinese Medicine evaluation and diagnosis call 303-947-6224 or email DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com.

"Women's" issues and Chinese Medicine: herbs better than bc pills in some cases

This study's title is about pelvic pain and Chinese Medicine but it lists other issues that are resolved by acupuncture and/or herbs and that may require more study so that these therapies are more accessible to women. There is NO reason to suffer through what we commonly call "women's issues".

Acupuncture: another study showing its effects on the brain - and therefore the body

I love these studies that show how acupuncture affects the brain. Yes, it's true. Why do you think it works so well to reduce the effects of stress?
If that's not a strong enough reason to receive acupuncture, how about these?
- it improves immune system function
- reduces inflammation (one of the ways it improves the immune system)
- rebuilds digestion so you make better quality qi (energy)
- can help you avoid surgery for chronic issues like back pain (true!!)
- got sciatica? Acupuncture works!
- and it can help reduce lines and wrinkles if you are interested in maintaining your youthful appearance.

Seasonal allergies? Chinese herbs can stop your sniffling and sneezing!

If you are suffering through seasonal allergies, give me a call. Not only does acupuncture successfully treat allergies but I have the bomb Chinese herbal formula for allergies. I kid you not, 100% (including myself) of people who have taken the formula say it basically "cures" their allergies. No more symptoms! And, you don't need to take it forever like you do some pharmaceutical drugs. No more allergy symptoms just put it away for next time.

It's the healthy way to treat your allergies.

Since it is a Chinese herbal prescription, I will need you to come in for a treatment so that I can get your medical background and do a proper pulse examination/diagnosis to be certain that the energetic properties in the herbal formula are right for you.
