Oh my ... everyone wants to practice Chinese medicine even without proper training

I LOVE my medicine; Chinese medicine is the sweetest, most effective medicine that I have both consumed and practiced.  So I can understand why other professionals would like to have one of our therapies - acupuncture - in their scope of practice.  Because they know it works.  The caveat?  It works when performed by a trained professional (that is, someone who has attended a 4 year Chinese medicine college, has passed national board exams, and is state licensed).

Would you let me do a chiropractic adjustment on you if you knew I only had taken a weekend course in it?  Actually, you might because you trust me.  That's scary.  KNOW your therapist.
Would you want to know that your orthopedic surgeon is really a gynecologist who only took a weekend course in orthopedic surgery techniques?  Would you let me, a practitioner of Chinese medicine, do surgery on you even if I DID take that weekend course?

What if you found out that your physician skipped all of the diagnostic courses?  He/she is just doing medicine by the numbers "knowing" that this treatment works for this symptom because that's what it says in a book.  How can he/she create a good treatment plan without having the ability to make a proper and correct diagnosis?

I know.  These questions seem silly.  But this is exactly what is happening in the world of acupuncture. Non-practitioners of Chinese medicine are taking weekend courses in acupuncture and then offering it in their practices.  Do they know how to diagnosis according to the theory of Chinese medicine that guides the use of acupuncture?  Plain and simply: no. Do they know how needling the gallbladder channel can affect the heart channel.  No.

Buyer beware - or better yet - be educated.  Before you allow someone, even a practitioner whom you trust, to stick acupuncture needles into you, as him/her how much training they've had.  It's your right to know.

I see patients at offices in Capitol Hill and Osteopathic Integrative Medicine at 1st and Broadway.
Here is how Chinese medicine and acupuncture can help YOU!

1. Having difficulty conceiving?  Libido flagging?  Hot flashes? Acupuncture works for that.  I see both men and women about reproductive health and offer a FREE consult to explain my work.  I can also address the declines that happen with aging (like resurrecting the flagging libido).

2. Getting a few wrinkles?  Acupuncture works for that!  Click here to schedule your FREE consultation with the internationally known age control expert Dr. Martha Lucas, L.Ac.DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com.  Your cosmetic and anti-aging needs can be met with Chinese medicine - the true anti-aging medicine.  The Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture has been featured in O Magazine and is taught to practitioners all over the world who want to offer the patients a safe, effective alternative to injections and plastic surgery.  Use the most natural thing there is for age control: your own body's energy!!

3. ATHLETES: Stamina flagging? Injured? Acupuncture works for that! I'll get you back in the game asap.

WHY AM I ABLE TO GET YOU SUCH GOOD RESULTS?  Because I can give you an expert diagnosis to determine the cause of your symptoms or disease and then TREAT IT!
Chinese medicine treatment works best when your practitioner KNOWS HOW TO MAKE A DIAGNOSIS.  Too many acupuncturists treat symptoms not cause because they don't know how to take pulses or use other Chinese medicine diagnostic tools properly. Take it from someone who teaches Chinese medicine students from all over the world - the proper diagnosis leads to more effective treatment.

On the other hand - got good health?  Acupuncture/Chinese medicine works to maintain that.  But if you don't feel the best that you can or as good as you think you should, call me at 303-947-6224 or email me DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com.  Even though I feel great, I receive acupuncture every other week whether I need it or not ….

INSURANCE BILLING: your acupuncture or other Chinese Medicine treatments may be covered by your health insurance.  As a service to you, we find out whether or not your health insurance covers acupuncture and our other therapies and when it does we bill your insurance.  There are plans that cover it, some pay for unlimited visits or enough visits for you to come every other week and be the healthiest employee in your company! Why not be healthier! That's what the insurance company realizes - preventing surgeries, the use of expensive pain killers, and your having to have medical procedures saves them (and you!) money.  Even preventing the common cold saves your employer money.

Bio: Dr. Martha Lucas, L.Ac. is an internationally recognized expert in Chinese medicine for pulse diagnosis (internal medicine and emotional health issues) and Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture.  She can be reached at DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com or 303-947-6224.
