Acupuncture and Parkison's disease

This is an interesting article that mentions the "temporary" effects of acupuncture on some of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.  What's fascinating though is that they can tell that acupuncture affects the brain but don't go the next step toward how it can change your brain, your immune system, your reproductive system, etc. That's partly because it's just a blurb probably not written by a practitioner of Chinese Medicine so is not complete.  But it's a start and good information for people to know. Acupuncture affects the brain!

Scalp acupuncture shown effective for treating vascular dementia

A study published in the Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science concluded that  acupuncture is beneficial for the treatment of vascular demential. Vascular dementia is caused by brain damage due to impaired blood flow to the brain.  Dementia is most commonly seen after a stroke or a series of mini-strokes.  But, any condition that reduces blood flow, and thereby oxygen, to the brain may cause vascular dementia.  The acupuncture substantially improved cognition and the overall condition of the patients suffering from vascular dementia including their performance of daily activities, mental state, and social behavior.

Acupuncture and herbs found to work for those who want to lose weight.

A study by Sui et. al. in Obesity Reviews concludes that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are “more effective than placebo or lifestyle modification in reducing body weight.” The researchers note that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have fewer side effects than the pharmaceutical obesity medications including fenfluramine yet the acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine demonstrate similar efficacy. The authors note that, “The use of western anti-obesity drugs has been limited by side effects including mood changes, suicidal thoughts, and gastrointestinal or cardiovascular complications. The effectiveness and safety of traditional Chinese medicine including Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) and acupuncture provide an alternative established therapy for this medical challenge."

Ovarian cyst pain gone. Acupuncture works!

One of yesterday's patients said: "My ovarian cyst pain had become intolerable. I was willing to let my doctor do anything she had to do to that ovary to make the pain go away.  Now, since I've been seeing you it's gone.  Thank you; you are amazing!"
It's Chinese Medicine that is amazing.  Ovarian cyst pain, low to no libido, PMS, fertility issues? By the way, PMS is not "normal" - a "normal" period is one without any cramping, bloating, moodiness and yes, you can have that kind of period.

Depression: It doesn't have to be so sad

If you have a tendency to be depressed/sad or are taking anti-depressant medication, Chinese Medicine will help you. Emotional issues are one of my favorite things to treat in my practice because I know how the various Chinese Medicine therapies can help people come up out of the dark spiral of depression and anxiety ... even unfounded fears.  We can inherit those tendencies and don't even feel like they are "right" for our lives.  Give me a call!  303-947-6224 or email DrMLucas@AcupunctureWoman.com.  I can help your Spirit rise.
