Acupuncture during pregnancy: a wonderful way to keep Mom and baby balanced!

I had to write this today because yesterday I was in the lobby of a quasi-medical business and the receptionist was receiving a little massage from one of the other staffers for a stiff shoulder.  I asked "have you tried acupuncture for that?" The person giving the massage stated (and with some authority that turned out to be no authority or knowledge about acupuncture/Chinese medicine at all) - anyway, she stated "No! She's pregnant.  She can't get acupuncture."  I couldn't help myself and said "That's just not true.  Acupuncture would help her and I treat women before, during, and after their pregnancies.  In fact, my patients who received acupuncture throughout their pregnancies all say the same exact thing about their babies 'my baby is the best, calmest baby ever'.  I tell them that it's because the baby was so balanced in utero.

The girl continued to say that "well, Western medicine says they can't get acupuncture and Eastern medicine says the can."  Wrong again!  And, if an MD doesn't have any knowledge about acupuncture during pregnancy, what are they doing making an opinion about it at all - especially to say "don't do it" with any authority?!
